Nemurai (Art Direction & Live Visuals)

[01] Overview

I make the visuals for Nemurai’s live shows: everything on the screens behind the decks, including the Nemurai logo itself. The aim is a world that matches the music, performed live so it can follow the room in real time.

[02] Logo

A logo made for the screen.

I designed the Nemurai logos and built them to move: glitching, tearing and flickering in sync with the music, or set into a 3D scene. Both clips were recorded straight out of Resolume.

[03] Process

From a scene to a set.

  1. 01

    Blender

3D scenes built and animated for specific tracks: a city, a room, a tunnel of pixel panels. Rendered as loops so they can run for as long as the song needs.

  2. 02

    After Effects

The logo animations, compositing, glitch and colour work on top of the renders, and the transitions between songs.

  3. 03

    Resolume

Everything comes together in Resolume Arena. Most tracks have their own clips for the build-up and the drop, so I can perform the visuals live and hit the drop with the music instead of playing back a fixed video.
